Michael Warpenburg

Musician, Engineer & Programmer

I welcome comments, suggestions, feature requests & bug reports at VASTprogrammer@tangentcats.com.

I like most types of music, it just depends on my mood. Lately I have been exploring a Downbeat Acid Jazz sort of style but I am generally interested in any type of music that I can make with the equipment in front of me at the time.

I am fortunate that my intelligent and beautiful wife Maggie unselfishly gives me time to pursue my musical interests and maintains this website.

Why did I write VASTprogrammer?

I started this project shortly after my Dad died. I saw a real need for VP. My Dad was always friendly, helpful and never put money before people. God has been very good to me so I wanted to give something back. As an homage to my Dad I have made VP free to everyone with the need.

What have I done lately?

I have started combining my interests as an engineer & programmer with my love of music and have a few projects in the works.

I recently constructed some bass traps for my studio based on Ethan Winer's research in this area. The results were astonishing. I recommend this approach to anyone considering the acoustic treatment of their performance or listening space.

When I'm not doing stuff like this I am busy pounding on my jazz & keyboard chops trying to make them better. I also recently started playing the electric bass some because I dig that groove thang.

Here are some of the things that interest me

All About Jazz
Jazz Theory
Think in Jazz
The Jazz Theory Book (Mark Levine)
The Jazz Piano Book (Mark Levine)
Jazz Standards (The Sher series is legal and much better than the bootleg stuff.)
